Our Staff
Billy
Even though he’s traveled all across the US and even some of Europe, Billy’s lived in Kentucky his whole life. Before he finished his Environmental Science degree he wanted to work at his favorite bike shop, so as the story goes “I literally stuck my head in the back door and asked Garry for a job and for some reason he hired me!” Having started in 1995, Billy worked his way up ‘til he eventually bought the shop with his lovely wife Helga in 2000. He’s no stranger to bikes, having over 20 of his own, but his favorites are his Surly ECR, a custom single speed mountain bike (The Dragon Slayer) built by Alex Meade himself (the first mountain bike Alex built in fact!), and a 1993 Cannondale Delta V 2000 (The Pope Mobile). When Billy’s not at the shop, you’ll find him tinkering on all sorts of bikes, old cars, and even the tractors he uses on the farm.
John
John started working at the shop in 2007, and in 2018 became one of the co-owners alongside Billy. As a result John has and has had a lot of bikes, his current quiver consisting of a Giant Revel Commuter, his father’s ‘93 Giant Iguana, Giant TCR, Giant Revolt demo bike, SC Hightower, DMR Rhythm DJ, Cannondale Synapse Fixie Conversion, Salsa Warroad, Surly Krampus, and “Rick”. He loves taking his bikes anywhere and everywhere, especially when he can explore new trails and roads. Before he was a bike mechanic, John worked his first job at a TV station and got a degree in telecommunications from U.K.
Jane
Jane grew up in Maryland, and then after a few moves around the country, ended up in Lexington where she’s lived for the past 10 years. She’s ridden a bike since childhood, and then taught her 7 younger siblings how to ride. Her career background is in sales and marketing in various forms. A little over 3 years ago she went from being a regular customer to working at Pedal Power, her favorite shop! Jane’s current bike fleet includes a Juliana Joplin, Juliana Quincy, Surly Krampus single speed (in cupcake sparkle pink!), Surly Straggler (custom build and in pale pink!), Liv Langma, Liv Pique, Marin Alcatraz (custom build in bright pink!) and a vintage Nishiki road bike. To no surprise to anyone, Jane spends most of her time riding her bikes- “sorry, not sorry.”
Dan
Dan comes to Pedal Power with over 30 years of experience in all facets of the bike industry! At different stages in his life he has raced BMX, raced MTB, competed in Freestyle BMX, traveled with other pro BMX riders doing Freestyle BMX shows and worked as the store manager/service manager for shops in New Jersey, Florida, and North Carolina. He is originally from Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey. Aside from riding bikes, Dan loves to design and make bicycle parts, travel, camp, cook, woodworking, and spend time with his wife and dog. Dan has had many bikes over the years but his current bikes are a We The People Revolver, Schwinn Homegrown, and Litespeed Obed.
Howard
Howard (aka HoFlo) was a police officer and army veteran who was a regular customer here at the shop for over 20 years! After retirement he wanted a part time job and Pedal Power turned out to be the perfect fit for him. Whenever he’s not here Howard is riding his many bikes (a Serotta Classique “Velma”, Surly Crosscheck “Shaggy”, Salsa Stormchaser “Money Penny”, and his Surly Krampus). He also enjoys traveling, and in fact has ridden nine famous mountain climbs in France alone! Howard is a foodie who’s picky about food, but when it comes to Little Debbies (or bourbon), all bets are off!
Cameron
Cameron was doing commercial finish carpentry and traveling all over when he stopped in Pedal Power to get some bearings for his Profile hub. While he was in the shop Ken offered him a job, and he’s been here ever since! Cameron is talented at many things, including spinning fire poi, playing guitar, juggling, cooking, yoga, and woodworking! He also enjoys riding road, mountain, and just about anything on his bikes, a Giant Revolt, Felt TK3, Surly Krampus, and 1980-something Specialized Sirrus. Cameron has been in the bike industry for over 5 years and also rode his bike as a courier for 5 years when he lived in Charleston.
Charlie
Charlie grew up in Seattle, Washington before moving to Lexington in 2015, where his dad saw a “we are hiring” ad on Pedal Power’s Instagram and he started working here a week later. Charlie’s hobbies include skiing, which he’ll do at any possible opportunity, playing the drums, and watching UK sports and the NBA. He’s won 3 state championships drumming in the marching band at Lafayette! Charlie also loves to ride his Cannondale Carbon Habit, Supersix Evo, Specialized Hardrock, a Fetish Cycles Fixation DJ, and his most recent acquisition, a Cannondale CaadX. If you need a bike boxed up for shipping, Charlie’s the guy to do it, it’s his all time favorite thing to do at the shop as a matter of fact!
Travis
It’s always a good time when Travis is around! Travis joined the team about 2 years ago and has been making us laugh ever since. He got into mountain biking while he was living in Virginia from 2018-2021. Currently he rides a Trek Roscoe and a Giant Stance (Clancy the Stancy!). He’s hoping to add a gravel bike to his collection in the future. Travis is a self-proclaimed nerd who likes to play dungeons and dragons and warhammer 40k, suuuuper into volleyball, Cleveland Browns, Brandon Sanderson books, Edgar Wright movies, and playing the drums, guitar and piano. His cats Rohan and Pippin are the best animals on the planet (per Travis. We agree there’s room for debate here). Outside of work Travis can sling a mean cocktail.
Hattie
Hattie lives in Versailles on her family’s farm, and loves being outdoors whether it’s mountain biking, hiking, or just enjoying nature itself. She grew up around Pedal Power and loved it so much it was no surprise she wanted to work here! Though she would like to be in the medical field in the future, she’s enjoying her time here at the shop (there’s lots of bikes to look at after all!) In her free time Hattie enjoys doing a variety of things, including riding her bikes (a Cannondale Moterra, Cannondale Killer V, and Liv Avail AR 1), playing the violin or mandolin, or drawing or crocheting. She loves almost all genres of music, especially rock and indie, and will often have her earbuds cranked up while mountain biking.
Eric
Eric can’t remember a time he wasn’t on a bike! Growing up in Eastern Kentucky with the gorgeous Appalachian mountains had him riding his mountain bike and dirt jumper wherever a trail (or what could be considered a trail!) could be found. He joined Pedal Power almost 2 years ago after being a longtime customer. His current bikes are a Salsa Rustler, Giant Fastroad AR, Radio Fiend DJ, and a Motobecane Fly Hardtail. Along with bikes, Eric also loves playing and producing music, nature, and all of his reptiles at home, interior design (he unofficially blueprints for himself and family!), cooking middle eastern food and learning to cook new dishes. Eric is an outlier to most of us in that he loves cooler weather.
Evan
Evan, or “Burt Reynolds” as we call him here down at the shop, graduated from Transylvania University in 2023 with a degree in Health and Exercise Science. He loves playing lacrosse, having played Division 3 at Transy and now coaching Youth Travel lacrosse in the summer and fall. Evan also has a passion for traveling and experiencing different cultures and cuisines, he’s been to 8 different countries! He also enjoys lifting weights and riding his 2008 Specialized Allez (or dreaming about getting a TCR!).
Dennis
Dennis (aka Captain America) is a retired Lexington police officer and military vet who’s well loved here at the shop. Throughout his time in the military he flew helicopters and was even stationed in Europe for four years.Dennis has been riding for over 55 years, being a big mountain biker, he's accumulated a few different mountain bikes, his current ones being a Cannondale Habit 1, Giant Fathom 1, and a Giant Innova for when he’s just cruising around. Not only does he have a passion for mountain biking, Dennis also loves fitness and working out, with the occasional bar of dark chocolate to keep him motivated. He’s here at the shop most Saturdays so drop in and say hi!
Lucas
Lucas grew up in Louisville, KY, but came to the University of Kentucky to study. As a result he has a split loyalty between the Cards and the Cats, but we can forgive him because he’s quickly becoming a bike enthusiast! Lucas is a firm believer in bike helmets, as they’ve saved him from some nasty head bruises after falling off his bike. When he’s not working at the shop Lucas is studying to major in architecture, DJing for WRFL on Thursdays, practicing his photography skills, or perhaps you’ll find him in a coffee shop as he is a huge connoisseur of the drink! Lucas recently got a Trek Mountain Track and is looking forward to fixing it up.
