Surly's Pugsley SS has the kind of simple, trail-tackling, late-night-having, any-terrain, anywhere radness that simply can't be denied. One speed and massive tires means a whole lot of shredding without thinking about extraneous gears, bells, and whistles. Surly's proprietary 4130 chromoly steel frame softens the sting of rough terrain, and a pair of Surly/Shimano wheels with Marge Lite rims, and 3.8-inch Knard tires provide float and traction over formerly impassable terrain. A Surly OD crankset and rear cog make sure you keep charging ahead, while a pair of Avid BB7 disc brakes keep the fun at a reasonable level. Sturdy Salsa components and a sleek WTB saddle let you indulge your singlespeed fixation as long as you want to.
Imagine if a martial arts master had primate dexterity and was made of steel. You've now conceptualized the Surly Karate Monkey. The Karate Monkey is supremely versatile, capable of running skinny tires or massive treads (up to 2.55-inches wide), a rigid or 80mm squishy fork, rear racks, and disc brakes. And, while it can easily rock gears, it brings its A-Game to the singlespeed scene, too. Of course, the Monkey boasts Surly's fine butted chromoly tubing so you always enjoy a silky-smooth ride that's perfect for handling any terrain beneath your wheels, and there are short chainstays for a lively, fun ride you'll love.
Looking for a fat bike without all the fat? Lightweight construction and nimble OutFront geometry make the Fat CAAD so agile and quick, you'll want to ride it all year long. The slack head angle and long front center lets you get rowdy on the steeps, while the tight trail measurement keeps things crazy-nimble at slow speeds so you get the most out of that big, fat contact patch. Thanks to Cannondale's System Integrated cranks and offset chainrings, the FAT CAAD's Q-factor is up to 2.5cm narrower than the competition, so it feels like riding a bike, not a horse. The System Integrated crankset and offset Ai offset chainring also balance the short stays and allow for 2x compatibility with up to 4.8" tires!
If you ever looked at miles of mostly unrideable landscape and thought "Huh, I wish I could ride over that," Surly's Moonlander is reason for applause. The chromoly frame was built around humongous 4.8-inch wide tires on Surly Clown Shoe rims. These beautifully large assets are meant to roll over any obstacle. The flotation and traction gained by using large-volume, low-pressure tires can get you over and through otherwise unrideable terrain: ice, snow, sand, mud, wet rocks and roots. Speaking of ice and snow, the drivetrain uses Shimano SLX shifters so you can change gears in mittens, and a Surly Offset Double crank provides low gearing options. Plus, whether rain or shine, dry or mud bog, Avid's BB7 mechanical-disc brakes slow you down in all conditions.
